Will my traffic ticket result in a suspension?
One of the most frequent concerns for our clients is whether a traffic ticket will result in a license suspense. The New York State Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) generally utilizes a point system in determining whether a driver’s license will be suspended. Although there are other ways to lose your license, the points system is the most frequently experienced suspension method for many drivers.
A New York State Driver’s License will be suspended after suffering eleven or more points within an eighteen (18) month time period. The eighteen (18) month period utilized by the DMV counts from the date of violation and not the date of conviction. The point accrual date is an important factor as the DMV will not add points to your license until you are convicted or plead guilty.
